Cool down the Desi way: Coconut & Watermelon Cooler

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet, makes you want to move your dancing feet! Sorry, we couldn't resist, we're just so excited that the summer has finally arrived!

As much as we love it -  we don’t handle the heat well. In Ayurveda, we both have a lot of Pitta (fire) in our Dosha (body constitution). So, we’re always looking for ways to keep cool - so we can enjoy the much-loved sunshine!

We came across a recipe for this Watermelon Coconut Agua Fresca on our travels, by a blogger called Caroline’s Cooking. She has some other lovely recipes - so well worth checking out!

We love the recipe and have adapted it slightly for personal taste. Also, If you do want to spice it up a little, we can recommend going 'circa 2000' - and adding a little coconut rum to the mix!

P.s keep an eye out for a soon to come post about understanding your Dosha in Ayurveda.

Recipe - Coconut & Watermelon Cooler

  • 400 ml Coconut water

  • 2 Tablespoon lime juice

  • Few mint leaves

  • Few lime wedges

How To Make

  • Cut watermelon into small pieces. Remove the seeds. Place in the freezer to use later - approx 2-3 hrs.
  • In a blender take the 2/3 of watermelon pieces along with 2 tablespoon of lime juice and blend it, Saving some to use as iced cubes.
  • With the help of stainer, separate the water melon juice and keep aside
  • Now add a few chopped mint leaves and coconut water in watermelon juice and mix it well (this is the point you would add the coconut rum)
  • Take serving glasses - we like to put ours in the freezer to cool. Add mint leaves to the bottom of the glass, cover with iced watermelon cubes, along with lime wedges, and pour juice mixture in the glass
  • Your Watermelon Coconut Mocktail is ready!

    Hope you enjoy!
